A Message from Raising A Reader

, 2020

Dear Raising A Reader Network,

Whilmeaningful demonstrations are being held across our nation, Raising A Reader wants to support teachers and families in ways that promote meaningful conversations with their children and community. During Friday’s Town Hall meeting we presented resources created for families, educators and communities to discuss race, racism and resistanceThere are book suggestions for children and adults; curriculum guides for teachers; and more... Here are links to the video and slide deck. We encourage you to share these tools to support the families you serve. There are ways for everyone to educate and communicate.

As part of RAR’s Call to Action, shared in last week’s message, we are creating space for mental health and rest days for RAR Staff.  Our offices will be closed one day per month in June, July and August. We will be closed this Friday, June 12, and not hold a Town Hall, but hope you can join us on Friday, June 19.

Super Summer Book Bags are Now Available for Pre-order! Help your kids beat the summer slide.

Alsoas part of our Super Summer Series, we invite you to check out the read aloud videos on our YouTube channel. Each week a different author of a book in the RAR collection will read their book in English and Spanish. Cuddle up and watch Lulu Delacre read How Far Do You Love Me? or Monica Brown read Marisol McDonald Doesn’t Match (en español). Remember to check to see new authors each week!

We look forward to seeing you soon.

Kindest regards,

Michelle Torgerson and the Raising A Reader team
